One of the biggest lies the patriarchal system has cast on the Divine Feminine is the demonization of the number thirteen. Missing from airplanes and hotels the world over, it’s become the scariest number within mass consciousness.
Possible justification for this comes from speculative claims that both The Last Supper and the Crucifixion allegedly happened on Friday 13th. But the patriarchy has always had it in for Friday 13th and this is likely a cover up for something that runs much deeper - The Divine Feminine.
Not only did the number 13 happen to be the luckiest number in the Goddess calendar, Friday 13th was the luckiest day of the year. In more ancient Pagan times, the year was not divided into 12 months as now, following a man made calendar, but 13, following the cycles of the Moon. The new month began every 28 days, in accordance with a woman’s menstrual cycle and the New Moon. This was the Goddess calendar. Then the church got involved and things changed. Looking to move power away from the Divine Feminine, it added two or three days onto each month and got rid of the 13th month.
February is the one month of the year that still only has 28 days, with an extra day thrown in every fourth year, which we of course call Leap Year - a time when women ad allegedly allowed to propose to a man, so a very distance connection to the Goddess there.
Friday is derived from the Latin term ‘dies Veneris’ which translates ‘Day of Venus.’ A simple google search can tell you that Friday comes from the Old English term Frīġedæġ, meaning ‘Day of the Frige’ or the day dedicated to the German goddess Frigg, or the Norse Freya. Many equate Frigg/Freya to the Roman Goddess of love, Venus. There is a religious superstition that any 13th person sitting down at a dinner table will die within one year. Another instance of an unlucky 13 was the Knights Templar, who were arrested on Friday, October 13, in 1307 in which King Philip the Fourth of France had them tortured and killed.
Before patriarchal times, Friday the 13th was considered the day of the Goddess. It was considered a day to worship the Divine Feminine that lives in us all and to honor the cycles of creation and death and rebirth.
For many indigenous cultures, woman were considered to embody divine and magickal powers when she was menstruating. She was regarded by all for her wisdom and ability to offer intuitive and psychic messages. It was only when society became more patriarchal that women were made to feel shamed when they were having their
cycles and to ignore their amazing potential to create and hold space for new life. This attitude has helped to contribute to the idea that Friday the 13th is an unlucky day. Friday the 13th was considered a very powerful day to manifest, honor creativity and to celebrate beauty, wisdom and nourishment of the soul.
Friday is Venus Day and we all know that Venus is the epitome of feminine energy. Her energy joins us at the end of the week to honour the days gone by and to remind us that it is important to rest, relax and play over the coming weekend. How many times have we uttered the words 'thank goodness/goddess its Friday' ..... Venus energy also encourages us to tune into our receptive female energy, no matter what gender we are, in order to stimulate our creativity and bring art, music and healing into the world. And Goddess knows w our world sorely needs it right now.
The Moon is also representative of feminine energy and helps us to understand and deal with our emotions and sensitivities.
In the astrology chart, the Moon not only governs our emotions but also our potential and how we choose to express ourselves through life. In fact, for many people understanding their Moon sign can often help to bring more awareness than their Sun sign and their life.
Bringing Friday and the number 13 together, you can see that Friday the 13th is in fact, a very powerful day for Divine Feminine energy and creativity, an extremely powerful time of death and rebirth as it represents that mid-point in the cycle between something new emerging and something old slipping away which again fits very well with our current world situations. We all have feminine energy within us, so Friday the 13th is not just for us women. It is a day for all of us to honour the feminine, our own abilities to create and receive energy from the world around us and to recognize and honour each other, especially the women in our lives, those that support us and heal us and lift us when we are down.
So, Friday the 13th is not an unlucky day at all. Friday the 13th is the Day of the Goddess and is a beautiful and sacred day for creating and celebrating life and women especially. It is a beautiful day for getting in tune with your emotions and sensitivities and giving thanks to the beautiful Goddess that lives in us all. With thanks for this article to Avalon Whitefeather
