In this lesson from Goddess-Pages online course, we hear about The Maiden, the young Goddess, one who, I think, is often trusting and adventurous - such dangerous combinations! 

The tragic story of Jesus strikes me as being true to that of a child of a very young girl, who appears to have little support at a desperate time in her life. When pregnant, she visits a cousin. One wonders where were her siblings, parents and close family at the time when she appears so alone and vulnerable and lacking confidence, support and protection! 

I have a fascination for Mary Magdelene and was an early reader of the Holy Blood and Holy Grail and have read around this topic for many years. Perhaps she was a priestess, from a pagan land, who blessed his feet with her perfumed oil prior to his trial and death. New excavations in the Holy Land and historical investigations, provide new thinking about the title 'magdala' which means 'tower'. The Magdalene provided the disciples with money, and was first to visit the tomb after the burial of Jesus, so therefore, she had a privileged position within the family that would have been granted to only those women who washed and prepared the body of the deceased.

This  purse is practical as well as educational, and it has made me think about so many aspects of my life and society in general, as well as put me in touch with antiquity, with womanhood throughout the ages, and about many of the women in my life that have influenced me. I had never thought of ‘Goddess’ as a diminutive word, such as waitress, but She is the original, the first, She was the one and only, and therefore maybe I will attach a prefix such as this when describing Her. 
I have a connection with the Goddess and relate to many of Her archetypes. She is healing, and when focussing, and meditating on ‘the Lady’ especially in Springtime, as Flora, my meditations are wonderful, and full of images of beauty of all kinds. I love the early archaeological discoveries of the sculptures of the ‘Venus’ types. I am reflected in these images. I am very concerned about the incredible temples in the Middle Eastern war zones, unexplored, with the ground full of wonders, many, I am sure, would reveal much more about Her if protected for the future. I feel very aggrieved about the archaeological atrocities, despite many being in protected World Heritage sites. (Not to say anything about the animals, and rare species especially those that are badly affected by war, the ecological damage – as well as human suffering beyond our ability to imagine). I am against war, war on people, animals, and the delicate ecology of the planet.

I have long felt connected to the Virgin Goddesses who have more of an independent life, greater power of decision making.  I love the video of a song to Ariadne, Goddess of the Labyrinth, who gave the hero a thread so he could kill the beast that had its lair in the centre of the dark caves of dread and pain. I felt her pull on a thread that brought me to safety when I was in a dark warren of depression. Though I travelled to Chartres in order to walk the Knights Templar labyrinth there, it was closed on that day, so to went to the beach and made one myself in the sand. There is a marvellous 1 mile to the centre labyrinth at Saffron Walden, which was created in the 12th century and I have walked it on a full moon and on Earth day, and in the rain! I honour the Goddess of the Labyrinth, she is my savour!
In Part 2 of the course 'Getting to Know the Goddess', we enter another interesting part of the course on learning about Virgin Goddesses. Mary is known as a Christian mother and also virgin. Perhaps virgin means pure, innocent or young rather than the more modern meaning of not having had sexual intercourse.

I had not viewed the name Inanna as being related to the name 'nanny' but I am thinking it could also be related to the name Anna, which is reputed to be the name of the mother of Mary, grandmother of Jesus. Anne was my mother's name and it is scary how her character was very like Inanna. I am in my later years, so I have time to spare and share with others what I have built up over my life. I have worked hard to gain wisdom and wealth. I have an autoimmune illness, Giant Cell Arteritis, and Polymyalgia Rheumatica, which develop over the age of 50, most often in women. It is noticeable how this illness is ignored by professionals, and not much is known about it. Far more studies could be conducted. I think many could have this illness, undiagnosed. As women growing older, we are unseen. Men I think are far less attractive, but women are expected to always be attractive, be a capitalist and materialistic. It is a controlling society that expects women to always be an entertainment, always looking pretty, and not allow them to get old, or be unwell or disabled.

The Goddess Remembers: I feel uncomfortable about the word 'universe', used when other words would be more appropriate. I especially dislike the expression 'the Universe will provide', because the universe might be unlimited, but our beleagured, unique and self supportive planet is finite and in extreme danger due to overpopulation by human beings. The more humans, the fewer of every other species, bar the ones that human beings use for their own ends. Some people have chosen to re-write the English language to manipulate and exploit and I resent it! The universe is full of dark matter. It has a black hole at the centre of our solar system. None of this will provide anything that we can currently use.
