Words of Power

The Gospel of John begins: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God! This sets out the power of nouns which are naming words. The name of God was so powerful in the Jewish religion that it was not allowed to be spoken. A symbol or alternative word for God's name was used. The second Commandment states: Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord Thy God in vain! The name of God was sacred. In fact, everyone's name is sacred, yours, mine and others. Since earliest recorded time, it has been recognised that words have an intrinsic power. Abracadabra, Hocus Pocus, Heypresto, Opensaysme! All are words that conjure magic or call upon spirits. Words that name places, also carry power. Ask any Irish person about this. Many of their folk songs feature place names that have not only ancient meanings but also hold highly valued personal memories. Words are said at special times to bestow important meanings, 'Congratulations', 'I forgive you', 'You are fired', are examples of words that carry vital meaning. Words have power, to heal and to harm. This is the nature of the curse. An awareness of the power of words means that we understand that by using a word, we deliver that energetic vibration into the world.

As well as the power to elevate and heal, words also abuse, degrade, disempower and damage. If a person does not have a valid criticism of someone they want to abuse, they call the person by an abusive term. The word 'slag' is often misused as it means a prostitute, which is rarely true. I have often heard a man referred to as a 'cunt'. This is laughable, because this is a slang term for a woman's vagina and is obviously ignorant of the word's real meaning. The word 'bastard' refers to someone born out of wedlock. Many people are these days, but it is usually incorrect and so what? Other words, frequently used to abuse are 'shit' meaning excrement and 'fucking', a word for aggressive sexual intercourse. These words conjure distaste, disgust or shock. We are aware that homosexuals are often called names, and people without status or wealth, and people who are vulnerable can also be attacked with words that are intended to shame or hurt. Name calling is a common attack. In Africa, to call someone a 'witch' will incite violence towards that person as it did in many countries during the witch hunt eras. To call someone a 'liar' or 'thief' is an indictment on someone's integrity and will cause much distress and anger, especially if there is no justification for such slander. Words have power to bring about change, sometimes radical change, hence their power is immense.

Energy workers, healers and those with a spiritual practice are very knowledgeable about the power of Words. Blessings are beneficial; they deliver joy, beauty, vitality and positive and productive values, often in the firm of good wishes. Mantras are based on the power of words to bring about life changes, for greater health and wellbeing, for peace, love and connection to others. God's name is often recited to raise the mind's vibration, to cleanse it and bring union with the Godhead.

Channelled Messages: Channelling is becoming fashionable, with spirit-inspired messages from angels, ascended masters and wisdom keepers from the spirit realms. Lightworking, spiritual guidance, planetary ascension and a development of higher consciousness are topics that are increasing in importance. We have experienced a time of political, financial and natural chaos.
Financial meltdown of many rich Western countries caused by the 2008 banking collapse, the street riots across the world, upheaval in the Middle East, famine exacerbated by war in the Horn of Africa, the discovery of fire retardants in the fat stores of Sperm Whales, forest fires in the Amazon and in Australia which have killed millions of precious rare species, the list of difficulties on personal, societal and planetary levels  brings many people to consider the possible meaning of their life and how - and if - they can contribute to making the world a better place for our children and our children’s children.
Recent polls show that people who support a charity or who do voluntary work are happier and healthier than others who do not. Of course, if we want to live in a caring and considerate society, we need to practice caring qualities. Finding a spiritual path leads to fulfillment, especially where we can share good things with others of similar values.
There is a smorgasbord of spiritual paths available to choose from. How do we decide which will be the most worthwhile? Will all spiritual teachers betray our trust? For many, being told ‘what to believe and what to do’ is not appealing. In today’s world, intelligent people seek an experience where they can learn something of benefit to themselves and others, where they can share with others,  and where they can make a difference! One way to do this is to speak to Spirit and listen for advice and guidance.
We are not alone. Spirit teachers wish us to make contact so they can transmit to us the messages that will help us in every way. Channelling is the way in which these spirit teachers transmit their messages for personal growth, societal change and planetary welfare.
This is a message channelled from the spirit Bona Fortuna. “Eleven is the number of friendship and community and this energy is available for you on this day if you wish to take it. You are invited to make contact with your friends and tell them of your desires and hopes, to listen to theirs for mutual support where possible. It is also a day to contact community groups with an offer of assistance.”

This is a message channelled through the medium, Alison Stead. “The more materially sophisticated and technologically advanced we become, the further we move away from our divinity, the source of our being.  In a pursuit to make life easier, instead of appreciating simplicity, we over-complicate our lives. In order to return to a state of spiritual balance, we need to stop and slow down, listen to what we are being told by spirit guides as they pull at our heart strings to improve life for all people and animals on our precious planet.  The heart knows what is right and good, healthy and kind, for it experiences peace at its centre.  We will have peace again - in time.  After all the lessons have been learnt and we return to the truth of life, we will ‘know’ the Alchemy of our Masters that brings humanity together with the Source of all things.”
