Convergent & Divergent Thinking

There are two types of thinking:
Convergent thinking focuses on arriving at a single well-established answer to a problem. Convergent thinking is used as a tool to problem-solve. When someone uses critical thinking to solve a problem, they consciously use standard probabilities to make judgements. This contrasts with Divergent thinking where several possible solutions are sought.
Divergent thinking is a thought process or method used to generate creative ideas by exploring many possible solutions. It often used in conjunction with convergent thinking which follows a particular set of logical steps to arrive at one solution. By contrast, Divergent thinking typically occurs in a spontaneous free-flowing, nonlinear manner, where many ideas are generated and explored.
